HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatments are a non-invasive procedure stimulates natural collagen production, resulting in a noticeable lift and improved skin firmness.
HIFU is particularly effective for facial contouring, and most clients see visible improvements in just 4 weeks, with additional tightening over the following 3-6 months.
How It Works
The transducer irradiates 65-75° of HIFU energy and creates thermal coagulation on the target layers of skin tissue with no damage to the skin surface. As the treatment’s thermal energy safely heats the tissue, it contracts resulting in immediate tightening of the skin.
HIFU FAQs
What is HIFU?
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is used in medical aesthetics for skin tightening, face lifting, wrinkle reduction and body contouring. HIFU treatments stimulate natural collagen production and will provide noticeable effects
through an ‘ultrasonic facelift’.
How does HIFU work?
The transducer irradiates 65-75° of HIFU energy, then creates thermal coagulation on the target layers of skin tissue with no damage to the skin surface.
Following the initial treatment, the skin begins to undergo a wound healing process so that it stimulates collagen synthesis and regeneration. The formation of new collagen provides long-term tightening on the skin.
When will I see results?
Patients’ facial contours and fine wrinkles show competent improvement 4 weeks post treatment. Additional skin firming and tightening is seen over the next 3-6 months following treatment. Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System (SMAS) that is the same layer of tissue that plastic surgeons pull tight in a lower face lift. As the treatment’s thermal energy safely heats this tissue, it contracts resulting in immediately tightening of that skin.
Who can this treatment help?
- Mild to moderate skin and soft tissue laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm.
- Lax crepey skin throughout the face and body that occurs from ageing and environmental damage.
- People who are interested in non-surgical modality.
- A lowered brow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, lines or wrinkles on the face.
- Crepey and wrinkles skin on the inner arms, decolletage, periumbilicus, inner thighs and many more.
What aftercare should I follow?
Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately following the treatment.
- Cleanse your skin with lukewarm water (avoid hot water)
- You should avoid exposing your skin to extremes of heat + cold and protect your skin with SPF 30+ daily.
- Your normal makeup regime can be followed immediately.
If you want to undertake another facial treatment or therapy, you should inform your practitioner when and what treatment you had undergone.
Your skin should feel tighter, smoother and more youthful. Over time you may notice additional tightening following the treatment. (up to 3 Months)
What should I expect post treatment?
- Edema (swelling): The treated area may exhibit mild edema following the treatment this typically resolves within a week.
- Erythema (redness): The treated area may exhibit erythema immediately following treatment. This typically resolves within a few hours of treatment.
- Tenderness: Tenderness to the touch may be experienced following the procedure. This typically resolves within 2 weeks of treatment.
- Bruising: Mild bruising, may occur occasionally and typically resolves within 2 -3 weeks of treatment.
What are the possible side effects?
- Welt: Mild welting typically resolves within 2 weeks of treatment
- Discomfort/Pain: Momentary discomfort may be experienced during the procedure while ultrasound energy is being delivered. If patients have post procedure discomfort, it typically resolves within 2 days.
