How It Works
The laser uses light that is absorbed by the pigment or colour of the hair. This creates heat to destroy the hair follicle without damaging surrounding tissue. The damage to the hair follicle prevents it from being able to grow hairs. Hair follicles have three growth stages and for effective treatment the laser needs to treat each follicle in the active growth stage this is also known as the anagen phase.This is the reason that for effective laser hair removal 6-8 sessions are usually recommended spaced out to ensure all hair follicles are treated in the growth stage.
While the rate at which hair grows differs by individual, the length of the hair growth cycle generally depends on the type of hair and area of the body. For example, the active growth phase of the hair on your head may last several years, while hair on the body has an active growth phase that may last only a few months.
